An Award-Winning Wedding Photographer Discusses His Creative Lens

Welcome to my series of interview-based blogs spotlighting some of my favorite vendors.

They are talented, creative, responsive, and responsible: a pleasure to work with!

This post is dedicated to Alex Gordias, an international wedding photographer based in Boston and Cape Cod.

About Alex:

Alex Gordias is a wedding photographer, based in the United States.

He holds multiple Wedding Photography awards from Fearless Photographers, International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, Wedding Photojournalist Association, and other professional associations and is constantly learning new skills.

His passion for photography motivates him to provide his clients with unparalleled, attentive service, culminating in a stunning album of photographs.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Ever since I was a child, I have been curious about photography. My father and I took photos with an old-school film camera together. We then watched the magic happen, as the photos developed in a dark room.

Although I ended up getting my master's degree in engineering, my passion for photography never ceased. I eventually founded Alex Gordias Photography, and photography has been my life since then. While I may not use a film camera or a darkroom anymore, I still feel the magic happen!

Why did you decide to specialize in weddings?

Weddings are days when everyone comes together under an umbrella of celebration and love. People always look so beautiful when they are happy! It is a joy to me to be there and capture those moments, and catch a glimpse of all of the fun that abounds these events! Wedding photography always fills me with inspiration, and I love to provide couples and their guests with lifetime memories of their magical day.

Do you have a preferred style? What is it?

This is a complex question. Photography provides an immense creative potential and gives you the chance to create a specific photographic language. In my work, I enjoy utilizing a variety of techniques, and experimenting with different styles; besides, every client is unique, so of course, I often adapt my process. From candids to styled portraits, to action shots- I love to find new ways to capture special moments. But, if you're asking me if I have a favorite subject to photograph, I would have to say weddings!

What is important to you when working with a client?

I believe it is vital to form a relationship with clients wherein they feel comfortable expressing themselves- the most important thing is to deliver the best possible results for the client, and this can't happen without open, comfortable communication. I ensure to listen to and work closely with my clients and ensure they know that they can rely on me not only throughout the planning process and on their special day, but also for months or even years after their wedding day.

You’re located in New England. Are you available to work elsewhere?

Of course! I have had the pleasure of working all over the world, including Italy, Russia, Spain, and the Czech Republic. I plan to work many more destination weddings in the future, whenever we are able to safely travel again. Also, we have many exciting projects with Primavera Dreams, both in the United States and Italy!
